Let's get something out of the way right now - a queef is NOT a fart.

Yes, it makes a sound similar to a fart, but it's not a fart.

What is a queef? How is it different from a fart?

A queef is air that comes out of the vagina. A fart comes out of the butthole.

A queef is odorless that has nothing to do with digestion and diet, a fart does.

A queef happens when air is pushed and gets trapped in the vagina. It can happen for many reasons.

The most common reason is when penetration is involves, you may queef when...

  • the penis, toy, finger or tampon comes out

  • you change sex positions

  • oral sex can also introduce air into the vagina

  • you may also queef when coughing

  • laughing

  • doing yoga

Is it normal?

It is absolutely normal, babe!

If air goes in, it has to come out some way right? Think about it this way;

  • After blowing up a balloon, when you remove the pump or stop blowing in it and you let it go, it's gonna let the air out and make a funny farting like sound, same thing with queefs.

  • When you put air into your bicycle's tires, when you remove the pump it lets out a bit of air and makes a sound, just like queefs.

"It's so embarassing, how do I avoid it?"

"There's nothing to be embarrassed about at all," says Abdur-Rahman M.D., board-certified ob/gyn and Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan, Illinois. "The only people who don’t experience it are people who don’t have vaginas."

Remember that if air comes in, the air is gonna come out somehow!

Although, if it bothers you there are some ways to make it not as loud or not as likely to happen.

You can...

  • bring your legs together

  • avoid too much in and out motions with penetration

  • keep the toy or penis inside while changing positions

  • doing Kegels to strengthen your pelvic floor

  • using just the right amount of lube

QUEEFING IS COMMON AND ABSOLUTELY NORMAL! Let's put and end the stigma, together!

With Love,

Aude.
